Referral System in Cricket

The referral system in cricket was introduced due to much controversies that arise between the batsman and the bowler. In this situation the on field umpires were led to deep trouble if there is a controversial decision such as the batsman may not have a picked up a certain edge that hits the pad or appeal for a leg before and it is given out. So in order to avoid wrong umpiring decisions the ICC has chosen a referral system in cricket. In the recently concluded first test match between India and Srilanka they followed this system in cricket. Both kumble and Jayawardene has welcomed this approach because it favours correct decision to the on field players and also it provides umpires to give the correct decision to the batsman rather than giving him a benefit of the doubt. Decisions such as lbw and the ball that hits the pad or a bat can be more useful if this system is followed. If the fielder or a bowler is not known about the correct decision they can ask the referral umpire and make the correct decision. In the recent test match between India and Srilanka, the Indian batsman's Sehwag and Sachin, they were out as it was a much controversial decision Jayawardene ask for the referral umpire. So after clear replays they told to the on field umpire to be given out. So this system avoids much controversies among the players and every team should follow this system in cricket in the future.
