Strauss hits century
On the opening day of the first test match between India and England at Chepauk Stadium-Chennai,it was a day of fluctuating fortunes of cricket in that day. After having won the toss,England chooses to bat first. It was a crucial toss to win and England openers started slowly on a batting track and Cook and Strauss shared a century stand for the opening wicket.Cook was gone for 52 runs. Then Strauss batted sensibly for the most of the day, and on the other hand wickets were falling at regular intervals. Finally Strauss scored a patient century that boosted the England total to cross the 200 run mark. Before the end of day's play Strauss was out for 123 runs. It was his 13Th test century. Mean while he also crossed 4000 runs in test cricket during this knock. At the end of first day's play England were 229/5 with Flintoff batting on 18 and Anderson batting on 2.Bhajji and Zaheer took 2 wickets each and Mishra took one wicket.
