Lankans-Asia Cup Winners of 2008

The Asia Cup finals between India and Srilanka was held on july 6th.After India won the toss they elected to field first.On a placid wicket the pitch was favouring only the batsman.Sanath Jayasuriya and Dilshan shared a century run partnership which helped lankans to post a total of 273 from 50 overs.Jayasuriya scored 125 ,Dilshan scored 56 for the lankans.Then in the Indian chase started steadily with Viru scored 60 from 36 balls but it did not last longer.The Indian batting line up tumbled in the middle to the emerging lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis.He bowled brilliantly and took 6 wickets for only 13 runs from 9 overs.The young man really deserved this match winning performance.Finally lankans won the Asia cup by beating India with a margin of 100 runs.Ajantha Mendis was declared both the man of the match and the man of the series for his inspiring performance in his bowling in the Asia Cup.
