The first match of the Hero Honda Cup series between England and India was played at Rajkot. After England won the toss they choose to field first. Indian openers Viru and Gauti started of well with both the batsman reaching fifties and Raina played some cameo knock of 43 runs. Then came Yuvi whose whirlwind knock of 138* runs of just 78 balls pile up the Indians to put up a huge total of 387 runs on the board from 50 overs. Dhoni got 39 runs and Indians destroyed the English bowling attack.Then in the chase England did not start well with Prior getting out early and the run rate of England was at a slow pace. Only Pietersen and Bopara were batted superbly, hitting fifties but it does not last longer. Finally England were bowled out for 229 runs.India ensured a comprehensive victory by 158 runs. Yuvaraj Singh won the man of the match award for his excellent batting performance.Now India leads the seven match series by 1-0.
