Sril Lanka clinches Idea Cup Series

At the 3rd Test match between India and Srilanka at PSS,Colombo,Srilanka beat India by eight wickets with a day to spare. By this victory they also clinched the Idea Cup, their second home series win after 2001 against India. After winning the toss,Idnia choose to bat first. On a placid wicket, India posted a total of 249 in their first innings with gambhir top scoring with 74 runs. Mendis took 5 wickets for Srilanka. Then Srilanka psoted a total of 396 runs in their first innings.Sangakkara was the top scorer for Srilanka with 144 runs. For India Bhajji,Zaheer and Kumble took 3 wickets each. In the second innings Indians posted a total of 268 runs giving Srilanka a target of only 122 runs to win this test match. Dravid scored 68 and Laxman scored 61 runs. Mendis and Murali took 3 wickets each. Finally in the chase Srilanka eased home with eight victory over India after losing their first two wickets early.Warnapura scored 54 and Mahela Jayawardene scored 50 runs which contributed to their victory and finally they clinched the Idea Cup Series -2008.Kumar Sangakkara won the man of the match award and Mendis won the player of the series award for taking 26 wickets in this series.
